People & Work

People and Work is an independent charity (established in 1984) working in Wales. P&W seeks to make a difference through its two core functions: to promote the value of education and learning as a tool for tackling inequalities and promoting employment, through a programme of community based action research projects; and to undertake commissioned research and evaluation work for the public and third sectors in Wales addressing inequalities in areas such as education, health and employment.

P&W has developed a range of projects in Rhondda in recent years around sport, wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, IT and coding, social enterprise (recycling sportswear in Play it Again Sport) and young leaders. Details of the current projects can be found via the Projects menu at the top of the page. On top of this, P&W is a founder member of Stronger Rhondda Gryfach and takes a role in fostering links between the wide range of third sector organisations in Rhondda as well as providing baseline research for anyone interested in Rhondda to use.

P&W is also part of an all-Wales network of organisations called Talwrn (www.talwrn.org.uk) which brings together people from across the third sector to offer mutual support and develop new ideas concerning the future of the sector. From this group, a three area approach to the foundational economy began in 2020: Llechi, Glo a Chefn Gwlad (Slate, Coal and Countryside) explores areas where traditional industries once dominated but where communities have had to try to reinvent themselves and explores how local people are taking the lead in new social and economic structures.

We are grateful to wide range of funders and supporters from the private, public and third sectors.

P&W’s Rhondda office is in the old Pentre School, Upper Alma Place, Pentre, CF41 7DG.
